Satellite internet is thehigh-speed internet service used by people who live in locations that DSL and cable have not yet reached. In some cases, this can be a new development, and it may be only a matter of a few years before the surrounding towns have caught up enough for the other types of service to become available. If you are one of these people who subscribed to satellite internet service when it was your only option, but who now have other options, it is likely that are thinking of switching. DSL and cable are both cheaper than satellite, and are never affected by bad weather, so it makes sense to go for one of the other kinds of services.

This might leave you wondering what you are going to do with that satellite dish and modem you bought those years ago. To begin with, some companies don’t actually sell you the equipment, but lease it to you. You should be sure that your service provider is not expecting their equipment back before you begin making any plans for it. If it’s yours in fact, then you have a number of options. If it is still in good operating condition, then you can try selling it used on ebay; there are people who buy this stuff. Or simply ask around among your friends to see if anyone you know wants it. If you have a creative turn of mind, there are websites on the internet that give all kinds of ideas about how to repurpose it yourself. You can turn it into a giant wi-fi antennae, or even a fountain for your front yard, depending on your area of interest.

If none of these options appeal to you, donate your used equipment to a local charitable organization that will sell it. If it seems to you that it’s not worth reusing, then you should call up your local recycling program to find out the best way to dispose of used electronics. Whatever you do, there is no reason that your old satellite dish and modem should end up in the regular trash.
